Our Story

MCO was founded in 2011 by three college-age friends who shared a love for music. One day, over lunch, they were discussing their future careers and realized the incredible amount of talent surrounding them in Springfield. The vibrant and diverse culture of the Ozarks inspired them. They went on to found the Men’s Chorus of the Ozarks.

Over the years, MCO has evolved, grown, and become a beloved part of the local community. What started as a casual lunch conversation has blossomed into a thriving choral group, bringing people together through the power of music. Today, we are proud to continue fulfilling the mission set out by our founders: to create quality choral entertainment that is welcoming, inclusive, and impactful.

Mission and Vision

At MCO, we believe in the power of music to connect, heal, and inspire change. Our motto, “Giving Voice to a New Day,” encapsulates our mission perfectly. We aim to cultivate an environment where every voice is heard, valued, and celebrated. We believe that by sharing our voices with the world, we can inspire a future where diversity and inclusion thrive, and where every person, regardless of background or identity, can feel accepted and empowered.

We are proud to be a group that continually evolves—our mission is as vibrant as ever, and we’re dedicated to creating a space where all are welcome to sing, learn, and grow.

Why We Sing

Singing with MCO is not just about performing—it's about community, expression, and making a difference. Our members often share how much singing has impacted their lives:

  • “Music is the perfect vehicle for communication.”

  • “This is my opportunity to make a change in what people see and hear.”

  • “I want every LGBTQ person to know that it really does get better.”

  • “Singing gives me confidence and provides moral and social support.”

The act of singing in harmony is more than just an artistic pursuit—it’s a way of connecting with others, giving back to our community, and expressing something that words alone can’t capture. It’s a celebration of who we are and all that we stand for.
